PRIM for distributors and advisers

PRIM gives you a regulated, fee-based way to manage clients' mutual fund portfolios. Whether it pays depends on your book, your costs and how you handle the segregation rule.

How to approach it

  1. Size the book that could move

Only clients with ₹25 lakh or more qualify. Estimate how many would want a managed portfolio over the next two years.

  2. Check whether you can register

PRIM-only registration needs ₹2 crore net worth, a qualified Principal Officer, a Compliance Officer and one more employee.

    Readiness checklist
  3. Decide how to handle distribution

PRIM clients and activity must be kept apart from distribution, except for accredited investors. Some firms will use a separate entity.

  4. Or partner instead of registering

If registration does not pay for you, you can refer clients to a PRIM manager. Find registered managers near you in the directory.
